Basil originates from India and is considered valuable because “it clears the mind and appeases the heart”. In many parts of the world, basil was known for its quality to protect against diseases. The Ancient Greeks carried basil to have a good trip when on expeditions and the Romans used it as sedative.
Βenefits:Basil is antiseptic and expectorant properties and is excellent diaphoretic. It contains powerful antioxidants that protect against free radicals and the macular degeneration in the elderly. The "tea" of basil is particularly digestive, diuretic and tonic, soothing the gut and nervous headaches.
Cooking: Use Basil to cook summer vegetables, fish, omelets, sauces, pizzas, dressings and in confectionery (ice cream, sorbet).
